Last Update - (5/2/12 - Summer
Schedule, Coaches Corner)
Coaches Corner - Coach Vesel
After Memorial Weekend our summer basketball season
begins. Starting on May 29th we will have 4
summer teams practicing and playing games. There will
be a varsity, JV, JVII, and frosh team. Current 8th
graders will be making up the frosh team and part of the
JVII team. Returning players will make up the varsity,
JV and JVII team. A tentative summer schedule is posted
to the left. The game schedule will be finalized soon
and added. Frosh and JVII games during the week begin at
4 pm. JV games during the week begin at 6 pm and
Varsity games during the week begin at 7:30. Summer
season ends July 1st for the varsity team and
the last week of June for all the other teams. The
varsity and JV teams will be attending Oregon Team
Camp. Returning players can work the youth Hoop Camp
for service learning hours. The camp runs June 18th-21st.
Summer basketball is a great tool for our program. It
gives coaches an opportunity to get know their players
and what they can do. It gives players an opportunity
to play with new teammates and against high level
competition. Summer ball is the first steps in building
a team for next year.
The varsity will have 3 all league players coming back
(Caleb Herzberg 1st team, Kevin McClean 3rd
team, Reza Aleaziz 3rd team) and a 4th
returning starter in Caleb Dozier. I am excited about
the potential of this group. The key will be mixing in
the new players from our successful JV team. Summer
ball provides the opportunity to do this.
There will be a fee for each player to participate this
summer. The cost covers officials and tournaments.
V/JV players will have an additional cost for team
camp. The Oregon Team Camp is an overnight camp. The
cost covers room and board. The Portland Pilot Camp
(varsity only) is not an over night camp. The fee will
be included in the summer fee.
I look forward to seeing at some summer games. Feel
free to email me with any questions.
